Airbrush - a common portable device that allows you to accurately paint surfaces. Car owners who want to paint their car on their own are thinking about buying this device. But how beneficial is it?

Differences between an electric spray gun and a pneumatic one

Among several types of spray guns, two stand out especially: pneumatic and electric. The main difference between these devices is the way they are powered.

The electric spray gun is turned on by the usual method using an outlet and wire. A small tank is often included. The gun has a button for regulating pressure. The advantages of the device:

  • ease of use even for beginners;
  • light weight;
  • working pressure stability;
  • does not need a large number of additional accessories;
  • The base tank is suitable for most purposes.

The main disadvantage is the low quality of the coating. The device connected to the network is inconvenient to move, the length of the wire interferes, you have to use additional carriers and sockets.

Air gun powered by compressor. The gun and tanks of the device are most often made of metal. Other nozzles and tanks are included in the basic package. Advantages of the pneumatic model:

  • no electricity needed for work;
  • the missing wire cannot burn out, as is often the case with an electrical analogue;
  • light weight allows you to use the device with one hand.

The disadvantages include the high cost of the device. Before operation, it is required to carefully connect the device parts to each other, which complicates the process. Another disadvantage is that if the compressor breaks down, the spray gun will fail.

When working with a spray gun, you need to take care of ventilating the room. A mixture of coloring matter is concentrated in the air, which is harmful to health.

Is it suitable for car painting

Car owners who prefer to work with the machine on their own often think about buying an electric spray gun. The device is relatively inexpensive, and you can try to paint small parts of a car with it.

But in fact, working with the device is not too convenient:

  • high probability of marriage;
  • no air adjustment;
  • nozzles too large;
  • difficult to regulate pressure.

Marriage during painting the surface of the car may occur in the first minutes of operation. If you use a spray gun with a built-in turbine, paint is ejected immediately after the trigger is pulled. The problem is that a large drop of paint may form in the nozzle of the device that is turned off. By connecting the device to the network and directing it to the area to be painted, you can send an unaesthetic clot of dye to the car.

The lack of air adjustment does not allow you to adjust the paint stream to the required area. The same applies to the air supply pressure: if the paint does not reach the part of the car, shagreen is formed on the surface.

The size of the nozzle of the standard nozzle varies within 1.8 mm. Professional painters use much smaller nozzles, which are better suited for painting cars.

Of course, individual brands create models with controlled adjustment of air supply and pressure. However, they are more suitable for applying liquid rubber rather than varnish.

If you need to upgrade an old car or tractor, an electric spray gun will cope with this task. But work with an expensive car, the appearance of which is of great importance, is best left to professionals.

Tips for using for high-quality car painting

When deciding to paint a car with an electric spray gun, it is worth considering the recommendations of specialists:

  1. Do not apply too thick paint.
  2. Work exclusively on one side.
  3. Before painting, coat the area with primer.
Before purchasing an electric spray gun, you need to weigh the pros and cons well. For a single painting, buying a device is not profitable. If you want to provide services for painting machine parts on an ongoing basis, then this type of spray gun is not suitable for high-quality work.
