The mobile operator Tele2 has eSim support. So called modules built into smartphones and tablets. They allow the owner to switch from one mobile operator to another without buying a familiar SIM card. It is enough to install a special application on the smartphone, or use the QR code provided by the new operator.

But in order to use eSim with Tele2, the client will still have to purchase a SIM card, as this is required by Russian law. Then the subscriber writes a statement in the communication salon that he wants to switch to eSim. After that, the physical map is disabled.

Switching to eSim, even with the purchase of a card, is a big step forward for the domestic cellular market. From this moment on, a second SIM-card is available to the Russian user on the iPhone, on the “smart watch” and on tablets with the corresponding function. The Ministry of Communications is currently considering the necessary by-laws for the full implementation of eSim. By the end of the year, the legislative framework will be ready, and the technology will work throughout the country.
