Proper installation of acoustics in the car provides the full sound of musical instruments and the voice of the singer. To achieve the effect of maximum proximity to natural sound, you need to install speakers of different frequencies:

  • low-frequency (subwoofer, midbass speakers);
  • midrange;
  • high (tweeter).

But many people think that the average bass can be blocked by a combination of a subwoofer and mid-range speakers and get an acceptable result: it plays loudly, and this is important! Why it is not, read below.

What is midbass?

If you are engaged in improving car audio in your car, do it wisely. Start sculpting hack - then you yourself will have to suffer. But we were distracted.

So, midbass. These speakers are needed to transmit mid-range bass, from 80 to 400 Hz. They are an integral part of component car audio systems.

Reference: component acoustics consists of separate speakers of different frequencies, spaced around the cabin. Unlike coaxial, where all frequencies are collected in one speaker, here the sound is more dense, saturated. Coaxial speakers, although cheaper, but at the expense of compactness lose their playback quality: the frequencies mix, giving a “blurry” sound.

Usually midbass speakers are located in the front of the car, in the doors. Tweeters are placed on the dashboard or front racks: they are responsible for the range of 5,000-20,000 Hz. The sub speaker is connected to the rear speaker shelf.. Its frequency maximum is 50-60 Hz. For midrange it doesn’t matter where to stand, on the rear shelf or in the doors.

The most popular woofer speaker sizes are 16 and 20 cm, but there are 10, 13-cm. The larger the diameter, the lower the frequencies become available. High-quality midbass acoustics should have high performance in the following characteristics:

  • frequency coverage;
  • speaker power (N - minimum indicator, P - upper limit);
  • sensitivity (the higher the resistance, the lower the power, but the sound is cleaner).

Of course, without high-quality materials there can be no question of good acoustics. The fewer the resonating elements, the less rattle. When installing the columns, take care of the seals.

Unlike bass

Woofers and subs work in the low frequency range, this is their similarity. The difference between midbass and bass speakers is that the subwoofer closes the lowest bass of 10-80 Hz (and “heavy” subwoofers reach 50 or even 45 Hz), and midbass operate with frequencies from 80 Hz and higher. There are other distinguishing features.

  1. Installation Midbass speakers are best placed on the front doors. The sub is fixed in the back:
    1. on an acoustic shelf;
    2. in a closed box (not the best choice);
    3. phase inverter (ЗЯ with an acoustic tunnel that reduces resonance);
    4. rear shelf;
    5. acoustic shelf.
  2. Sound effect.
    1. When a subwoofer is playing, the whole car vibrates. Rock music becomes especially rich and deep precisely because of the subwoofer.
    2. Midbass conveys energy, the power of the musicians play. This is the meat of the composition.

To feel not just loud, but dense music, when every instrument sounds clean, you need to display all the sound frequencies.

Advantages and disadvantages

If you forget about the midbass, you get a huge sound failure when playing music. That is, the octave simply can not be heard. Let's list what the midbass brings with it:

  • masculinity of male voices (instead of squeakiness);
  • sounds of stiffness, the severity of the impact of the barrel;
  • a blow to the drum acquires a color, and not just a wham, like a pillow;
  • the bass game becomes dense.

Without a woof, music sounds like “buh-tsyk”, with the squeaky voices of the singers.

Not to mention the flaws will be dishonest.

  1. Firstly, the price. A branded column costs around $ 300, although there are cheaper options.
  2. When installed in the door, an acoustic short circuit is possible if the mounting is not rigid.
  3. Without buying an amplifier, sound effects will not work.

A lover of acoustics will turn any minus into a plus, if only to enjoy a rich sound.

Is it worth buying

Whether you buy midbass speakers or get along with a coaxial system, or put component speakers without middle bass, you decide. Informed - armed.

If you do not buy, then put a subwoofer with a larger frequency range and do not cut the midrange: then the quality loss will be minimal.

To save on buying, do not chase brands. Pioneer, Alpine will fly a pretty penny, while little-known manufacturers make decent models.

Good sound to your car!
