Features drip coffee maker, its features, pros and cons
Drip, or filtration, coffee makers have undeniable advantages over other types of coffee machines: small size, simple design and minimal feature set. They have no complicated “bells and whistles” and there are no additional costs for consumables or maintenance. Most models come with a permanent washable coffee filter.
The principle of "coffee": hot water is passed through a significant amount of coffee.
Using a drip machine is easy: the quantity of servings is measured with a measuring spoon, coffee is poured into the filter and closed with a lid. Water is already in the existing tank, and it is periodically replenished. It is heated and spilled on hot drops of coffee powder, gradually impregnating it. Ready coffee arrives in a glass teapot. Typically, drip coffee makers have a heated tray for the kettle - for long or delayed "coffee".
The disadvantage of this unit can be considered a limited assortment of one drink. But American lovers are unlikely to agree with this assessment.
Carob coffee maker specifications, features, pros and cons
The horn coffee maker by the principle of work belongs to the semi-automatic. It requires a lot of manual manipulations, but at the same time the user has the ability to clearly control the quality of the drink at the exit. It was from such machines that coffee preparation automation began to develop.
To get the best quality coffee, the horn coffee maker is heated and just hot water is passed through the system and horn before use. At the same time, the boiler brings the temperature of the water to uniform heating of the entire volume.
The horn is a massive portioned spoon with a removable strainer, in which ground coffee is laid and a little tamped. There is a special tool for this operation. The horn with a strainer is inserted directly into the device, and hot water under pressure is passed through the coffee. Ready coffee fills the cup. When the drink is ready, the horn is disconnected, and the spent coffee grounds are removed.
To prepare the next portion, the horn is washed, wiped and filled with ground coffee. For quick preparation of several servings of coffee, especially in the office, at least a couple of coffee strainers are bought together with a coffee maker so as not to waste time washing.
The disadvantages of the machine include:
- a large number of manipulations with small accessories;
- risk of scalding with steam or hot machine parts;
- the need to wash hot filters, if you immediately need to prepare the next batch.
In carob machines, a cappuccino machine is often present - a tube for steam, with which milk is whipped. Usually this feature works great on expensive models. In cheaper ones, there is a risk of overpaying for the "idle" option. When buying, you should also pay attention to the material of the horn. The metal horn will last longer and will not spoil the taste of coffee, which can be expected from plastic.
Disadvantages and advantages of drip and carob coffee makers - comparison
Drip and carob devices belong to the same price category, and the principle of their work is very different. You can only choose between drip and carob options based on the opposite - the taste and quantity of the finished product.
In a drip coffee maker, the temperature of the finished drink is lower than in a carob. But he warmed up additionally and stretched longer. A drip coffee maker will prepare one drink - real Americano coffee, soft to taste, which is customary to drink in large cups, usually also with a bite of sandwiches. There will be a lot of him, and he will wait and warm up until the next call.
In an espresso carob coffee maker, it turns out to be very strong and dense. Even if you add water to it to get Americano, the strength of the drink will be much higher than from a drip coffee maker. With an espresso-based cappuccino machine, a cappuccino is also made. In the drip version, water seeps through ground coffee, and in the carob version, it is squeezed under pressure. The drip coffee maker behaves much quieter during operation, takes up little space and does not require special care, except for the usual washing of dishes. It is easily disassembled, and all parts remain visible - there is nothing to clog in it.
In an espresso machine, making coffee requires some skill. This is a neat laying of coffee in the strainer, followed by knocking out the cake, and contact with steam and a hot horn. The cappuccino machine requires special attention and proper flushing technology. A drawback of a carob coffee machine compared to a drip can be considered its impressive size.
In both types of coffee makers, ground coffee is used, and grinding significantly affects the taste of the drink. From coarse grinding, liquid tasteless coffee is obtained, and fine grinding powder clogs the filters. Therefore, you need to carefully select varieties of ground coffee for coffee makers or acquire your own coffee grinder.
The advantage of the carob model compared to the drop model is that it consumes significantly less ground coffee due to the preparation technology.
Of course, coffee from freshly ground beans will always be favorably distinguished by both taste and smell. There are drip and horn models with a built-in coffee grinder, but their cost is close to the price of an automatic coffee machine.
Real coffee houses use hi-tech car horns that require special skill.
