Before the start of each winter season, you need to prepare all garden tools for long-term storage. Winter can adversely affect this technique, especially if it is not cleaned of dirt and moisture and is not properly stored. A few recommendations on how to fold garden tools before winter.

Lawn mowers

  1. The mower must be completely free of fuel before winter downtime.
  2. Thoroughly clean the mower before winter. Remove and sharpen the blade of the mower. Apply a light film of oil to it and reinstall. Disconnect the spark plug wire, turn the mower over and clean the bottom of the deck with a wire brush and a spatula.
  3. Remove the spark plug and spray oil into the cylinder. Pull the recoil handle several times to ensure uniform distribution of oil over the cylinder wall. Insert a new spark plug.
  4. Clean or replace the air filter. Wipe the top of the mower deck. Lubricate all parts with spray lubricant. Change the mower oil.

Trimmer

Preparing the trimmer for winter is similar to mowing:

  • wipe off any grease or dirt from the surface and remove all debris from the outlet openings;
  • drain all fuel;
  • remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter cord 2-3 times to distribute the oil, and reinstall the plug;
  • Store in a safe, dry place.

Pumps

The best option for a water pump is to bring it into the room.

  1. Disconnect the pump from the system and drain the water. Make sure the inlet and outlet ports are open, as well as the drain plugs. Air entering inside will allow water to drain.
  2. After draining, replace the drain plug on the bottom of the pump and add food grade propylene glycol to the pump housing. Propylene glycol will not freeze and prevent ice damage.
  3. Make sure all valves and heads are open. Then use an air compressor to blow water from the rest of the system.
  4. Depending on the complexity of the system, this can be done in stages. If one area is cleaned, air can enter the cleaned areas, leaving other places in the system with water. Check the valves and heads to make sure that water escapes from all parts of the pipes.

Dozhdevateli

  1. If the sprinklers are equipped with an automatic pipe drain system (usually starts when pressure drops below 10 psi), turn off the water source and open the system to relieve pressure. Water automatically drains from the main system.
  2. Use the manual drain method when the manual valves are located at the end and at the bottom of the irrigation pipe. To drain these systems, simply turn off the irrigation water supply and open all manual drain valves.
  3. Open the boiler drain valve or cover and allow water to drain between it and the backflow device.
  4. Drain the backflow device by opening the test taps.
  5. If sprinklers have non-return valves, be sure to open them to allow water to drain from the sprinkler body. After that, close everything that you opened.

Rain sensors

Rain sensors require very little winter training.

If your sensor is like a bowl that picks up water, you can remove the liquid from it and put a plastic bag on it. This will prevent the accumulation and freezing of water in the bowl area.

If your sensor is of the type using plates or discs, remove the plates and store them in the garage during the winter months.

Such preparation of garden equipment allows it to work longer and more efficiently, preventing unexpected breakdowns at the beginning of next season.
