This is a universal product for all Android devices that will work equally well and stably on devices of any manufacturer. It will become part of the standard Gapps package, due to which it will be installed everywhere out of the box. The development initiative has received a positive response from 55 operators around the world, 11 top manufacturers of mobile devices, as well as from Microsoft.

The development of another company messenger called Allo has been suspended; instead, all efforts have been devoted to the development of Android Messages, an application that will soon be renamed to Chat. The search engine itself understands that the new development at first will not become a full-fledged alternative to popular instant messengers, including iMessages. Expecting the same level of encryption is also not worth it.

The service, according to company employees, will focus on the communication protocol between mobile operators. RCS (Rich Communication Service) will soon replace SMS. Support for traditional SMS and MMS is not going anywhere, Google will only offer to do this in more convenient ways, if the operator supports the RCS protocol.

Google already has groundwork in this area, because the company has been developing messengers since 2005. How well they do it can be judged by the example of Hangouts, Allo, Duo and Google Talk.
